One week in

A perfect weekend morning.

We've been in our new place for a week now, and it's starting to feel like home.

William's nursery:

W and Georgia are definitely settled in and loving it. This weekend we checked out some local parks in Macungie, had dinner with Morgan & Adam Steckel and their adorable 3-month old Ben, and ventured out shopping (time to baby proof! Picked up a gate to start corralling William from dangerous areas). We were ALSO lucky enough to receive a visit from our beloved J. Cierski! We have missed him, and are so happy to be so close to him, and our other NYC friends, again.

W and Daddy waiting in line for Rita's Italian ice!

Look how small W looks with "Uncle" Josh:

Today W and I are leaving (sad that Daddy can't come) to go to the family lake house in Canada. Nanna is picking us up, and Grandpa, Uncle David, and Nain & Taid will all be there. Very excited, but will really miss Daddy (and this is Daddy's kind of vacation - boating, hiking, fishing, cards, cooking out, etc.)

So many of my childhood memories are of Canada with my family and grandparents, and I'm excited to show the cottage and lake to William. Of course he won't remember this year's trip, but we all will! Clearly I will take an estimated 400,000 pictures, so he'll see it someday.

Here are a few videos of William recently...

DIZZY WILLIAM!

We're here!

The move is complete!

This has easily been one of the craziest weeks of our lives - definitely William's! I can't even begin to thank Barb ("Gula") for coming to Austin for a week to help us pack, and to my parents for flying down on Sunday, packing, cleaning, and leaving less than 48 hours later (my Dad DRIVING from Austin to PA with Esch, and my Mom flying with William and I).

Somehow amidst all the chaos of the move, we also had some fun along the way. While poor Esch and Grandpa were driving all of our worldly belongings across the country, Nanna, William, and I got to see some good friends and family in State College! Gula and Aunt Erika came to have dinner with us, and it was great to see them! William is so lucky - he arrived to PA for the first time to find his very own nursery at Nanna and Grandpa's house.

THANK YOU to my parents, Uncle Andrew, Uncle David, and Eric Breniman for helping us move in to our new place this weekend. We literally could not have done it without you guys. And we love our new home - Gula and Grandpa saved us by looking at places for us in PA while we were still in Austin. It's great, and I know we will be happy here! I will post some pictures when we get all set up. It's starting to come together, though, and William's room was the first completed. I think I may like it even more than the "original" in TX.

We are still getting settled in - luckily Esch has today and tomorrow off until he begins work in Allentown on Wednesday. We're still hanging photos and have a few last boxes to unpack, but are getting there.

GOOD NEWS to report: we have a great solution (for now) for our as yet unsold home in Austin. After 2 open houses, our realtor is dismayed at the lack of traffic that has come through. She said that it's a very slow summer, and that all other local realtors are saying the same thing. She said that our house is showing extremely well, and that those who come always like it, but that it doesn't seem to be good timing. Needless to say we have been SO worried about selling - it would be awful if it sat on the market for months and we had to keep paying the mortgage, taxes, utilities, etc.

Our lovely realtor came through for us and has clients who recently sold their (much larger, $400k) home and are going to be moving in the Spring. They were looking for something temporary to lease, and they loved our house! We negotiated an amount for rent, which is less than our mortgage, but not too bad. We'll still be losing a bit each month, but nothing to lose sleep over. The reason we can't ask full market value from them is the catch (and it's great for us)... we're keeping the house on the market! It will remain for sale, and they have agreed to keep it very neat, clean, and leave for showings, etc. They have most of their things in storage, are middle-aged with no kids at home, and I think that they'll take good care of everything. It would obviously be better to show the house while empty, but having this extra income will really save the day!

They have agreed that if the house sells, we will give them 30 days notice to leave.

We really couldn't say no to this arrangement. If the house didn't sell by the end of August, things would likely slow down even more through the fall and winter. If there are still no buyers by the Spring when the tenants leave, at least it will be close to the beginning of Summer again - the best time to sell. Huge relief and a weight off our shoulders!

Just got an email from our realtor that they would like to sign the lease tomorrow!

Back to unpacking - while a very good little boy naps. More soon! We are so, so happy to finally be back!

It was so hard saying goodbye to our friends in Austin, but we know we'll see you all again, and are already planning a trip back next Summer at the latest.

Goodbye to our first home

Dear William,

The day after tomorrow we're leaving Texas - leaving Austin, leaving Montoro Drive.

Your Daddy and I moved here as newlyweds, excited to escape NYC and try out a new town for a few years. We have been so happy here. We became a family here.

We started looking for homes in Spring of 2008, and the house on Montoro Drive was the first one that we loved immediately when we walked through the door. We loved the big windows, the backyard for our "baby" at the time, Georgia. We didn't know or even have an inkling that in less than a year, we'd be expecting you.

We haven't even lived in this house for 2 and a half years, but have made so many memories here. I found out we were pregnant here. I had to wait 24 hours because your Daddy was out of town for work, and when he walked through this front door, I told him the biggest news of our lives.

I was pregnant with you here. It was the best 9 months of my life up until that time! We were giddy with excitement about the future, and dreamed about what you would be like, and how much we would love you.

We cleaned out the 2nd guest room here in preparation. Your Daddy built your crib and furniture here. We picked curtains, doggie themed decorations, and waited patiently. We filled bookshelves with little books, and an empty closet with little clothes.

In the early morning hours of November 9th, 2009, I went into labor here. We walked out the front door with our hospital bag and pillows in hand, and knew that in a few days we'd be coming home carrying something tiny and wonderful.

Besides your actual birthday, I think that November 11th, the day we brought you home, was the next best day of my life. It was sunny and 70 degrees, even in November. The house was quiet and was waiting for you. We walked you through all of the rooms, introduced you to your doggie, and spent our first night as a family together at home.

You smiled at me for the first time in our bedroom with light blue walls. Your Daddy read you a book every night in your nursery. We had your first Christmas here, and you met your Grandparents in these rooms.

I can't believe we're leaving, but I know that wherever we go together, it will be always be home. Someday we'll bring you to Austin to visit, and drive by your first house. Maybe another family will have little ones, and be as happy here as we have been.

Love,

Mommy

William loves America

We had the most productive weekend of all time. Short of selling the house, we got everything done that we needed to. With Gula here helping, we had a yard sale Saturday morning - wanted to sell some big things that we wouldn't be taking to PA - our grill, etc. Despite a chance of rain we had a huge turnout and made a lot of $ while cleaning out our closets and garage! It was very much worth the 7 am - noon work, and William played/napped with Gula the whole time.

We spent the rest of the day Saturday, and ALL day Sunday packing. I'd say 20 boxes or so were filled and are now ready to go.

Finally at about 5:00, we stopped for the day and let William splash around in his pool. After that it felt like the 4th of July - Barb made us a nice dinner, W went to bed, and we watched the fireworks from the deck while drinking daiquiris.

Only about a week left in Austin - very sad! But we are so, so excited to arrive in PA - home sweet home.
